I Hate Group Chats!: How a Family Group Chat Inspired a Cook Book ...

Like many families, we have a family group chat. Like a virtual family reunion, the group chat features everything from jokes, birthday wishes, squabbles, and more. Half joking, half serious, we'd proclaim: "Take Me Out of The Chat!" To combat these fleeting moments of annoyance, we made a pact that none of us could leave the group chat. This sort of unconditional commitment is in our bloodline. To exemplify this commitment we created: "Take Me Out Of The Chat Put Me In The Kitchen: The Green Girls' Cookbook".

How Did The Group Chat Lead to a Cookbook?

Having a groupchat is about connecting with a community. It's about facilitating the type of

communication needed to bolster team-like moral among people with some commonality. With each of us (Michelle, DaVida, and Trinette) leading plant based lifestyles we'd lament to each other about our shared experiences dealing with scoffs from family when we declared we were vegan, or searching for something to eat at the family cookouts. We decided our shared experiences were worth sharing.

What Makes This Cookbook Special?

Incorporating more plant based options into your diet can be a challenge without the right community. Eating is such a social activity: we eat on dates, at family events, and even at professional events. This cookbook is designed to provide readers with a community they can rely on to provide plant based options for every occasion. In sum, we want this cookbook to be a gift from our community to yours. Our mothers would exchange recipe cards with each other; this cookbook is our effort to do the same.

With Love; From Our Kitchens to Yours!
